MLB DFS: Power Index – DraftKings & FanDuel Main Slates – 10/3/23

Opening day of the 2023 MLB Playoffs has a solid four-game slate lined up with an excellent small slate for MLB DFS gamers on both DraftKings and FanDuel. Gone are the high run totals and day to day lineup questions of the dog days of Summer, playoff baseball is far more pitching oriented with teams typically able to land premium arms on the bump in most games, that is the case tonight with the noteworthy exception of talented but shaky rookie Diamondbacks hurler Brandon Pfaadt. The balance of the pitching pool ranges from great to very good, there is an abundance of talent on the mound and the winning pitcher could truly come from any game. Texas’ loaded offense is flashing the most clear power but they are in no cakewalk against tough righty Tyler Glasnow, the Brewers land second for home run potential against Pfaadt, but already we can see that things are working halfway down the board from the “magic number” for home run potential. Getting to a spread of options on the mound and at the plate is a strong approach, though picking spots for concentrated ownership at the plate is also not a bad approach on a short day.

Main Slate Power Index – 10/3/23

The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
