The MLB DFS main slate for Saturday night leaves much to be desired with only five games on deck and a limited pitching board that is littered with potential short starts and pushing a lot of projected offense in the direction of the slate’s bats. The lean is heavily toward hitting on this slate with the Giants, Padres, Astros, and Braves all pulling strong marks for power throughout the lineup. The Braves lead the day, barely edging out their opponents, the upstart Pirates by collective fantasy point projections on our stacks tool. That game has the highest total of the day and a pair of clunky pitchers on the mound, they should be quite popular on both sides. The board is limited for pitching, with options like Nathan Eovaldi on a short leash but facing the Athletics, Lucas Giolito facing the team that acquired then cut him, and struggling Cristian Javier. Logan Webb projects slightly behind Eovaldi even with a 5.0-inning limit for the Red Sox righty, but Webb is a high-end option who will be likely to lead the slate for innings depth, he is the lone “safe” option on the board. A concentrated pitching pool with a broad spread at the plate is a fine way to approach a slate of this nature.
Main Slate Power Index – 9/9/23
The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
