MLB DFS: Power Index – 8/17/23 – DraftKings & FanDuel Main Slates

The tiny eight-game Thursday night main slate features an interesting mix of pitchers and a few primed spots for power. It seems as though the entire world will be encamped on the Mets vs Cardinals game, with a matchup between Adam Wainwright and Jose Quintana pulling down a 10.5 run total in Vegas, two runs higher than each of the other three games. There are, of course, opportunities in spots outside of St. Louis tonight, but that game is almost certain to provide some fireworks and the Mets are one of the better options overall on this slate with the Cardinals not far behind. The Padres are pulling in OK power marks to top the board against Zac Gallen, but he also ranks as the second overall starter on the board in a both-sided situation that favors the pitcher, even the slate-leading power marks today are not overly high.

Main Slate Power Index – 8/17/23

The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
