MLB DFS: Power Index – 8/16/23 – DraftKings & FanDuel Main Slates

The main slate features eight games on both FanDuel and DraftKings tonight, with a fairly loaded pitching board that has a high peak and a gradual decline. Several top-end starters are projecting very similarly at the top of the board with numerous starters approaching that level at a range of fairly high prices, the value-based pitching plays are somewhat thinner on this slate, particularly when cast against the dregs of yesterday’s options. The pitching slate falls more along the lines of a haves and have-nots day, as in talent, many of the lesser pitchers on the board are pushing big marks for home run and scoring potential in the direction of their opponents, not the least of which is Randy Vasquez and the score that he is handing to the elite Braves offense. The Angels project well for power once again, but they have been a letdown in their series against the Rangers and are facing talented Jon Gray. The Cubs and Padres are drawing solid marks against Mike Clevinger and Dean Kremer, while the Mariners look like a strong potential source of power again, primarily against bulk reliever Alec Marsh.

Main Slate Power Index – 8/16/23

The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
