Monday’s MLB DFS main slate features a strong mix of options at the plate with numerous low-end starters taking the mound for their respective clubs on what should be a very concentrated day of pitching ownership distributions. This slate has the makings of one that will be won and lost with bats, there are a few very high-end starters to work with before the bottom falls out and we are looking at a long list of targets for hitters, including Peter Lambert, Drew Smyly, Ken Waldichuk, Cole Ragans, and more. The top of the board features quality with Spencer Strider, who will be crushingly popular but deservedly so, and Gerrit Cole, as well as Freddy Peralta in a good matchup and Logan Webb in a tougher spot. The board demands a spread of shares across a wide range of hitting outcomes, but carving out a path with that handful of pitchers plus an option or two in the Dane Dunning range makes a lot of sense on the mound.
Main Slate Power Index – 8/07/23
The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
