MLB DFS: Power Index – 7/4/23 – DraftKings & FanDuel Main Slates

Happy Fourth of July! The 6:40 ET main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel features a light day for the holiday with just five games. The slate includes a high-end mix of pitchers for having only 10 options, including the return of Tigers starter Tarik Skubal, Shohei Ohtani in a direct challenge matchup with the Padres, an interesting lefty against a bad team in JP Sears, and four highly playable right-handed tier-two starters in Chris Bassitt, Joe Musgrove, Shane Bieber, and Lucas Giolito. The deep pitching board has offense somewhat in check, with no teams mashing through the top of the power index, but in true baseball fashion, we can expect two or more squads to provide slate-bending scores.

Main Slate Power Index – 7/4/23

The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
