The Sunday afternoon main slates take slightly different shapes with a nine-game contest on DraftKings and FanDuel breaking tradition and including the Yankees vs Red Sox game for a 10-game slate. The game in Boston is the first of a doubleheader and the Red Sox are yet to announce a starting pitcher after noting that James Paxton would start on Monday after originally being scheduled for yesterday’s rainout and that Brayan Bello will start the second game tonight, leaving the team likely to use a call-up on the mound. In examining the 40-man roster we were unable to determine a viable candidate from that pool, any of the potential minor league options are either pitching as relievers or just made starts in the past two days in the minors. The board below is using a placeholder value for the Yankees and will be updated upon announcement of the starter, assuming FanDuel does not realize their error and strike the game entirely. Should be fun. Otherwise, the slate looks loaded for bear with plenty of hitting options and a handful of viable pitchers.
UPDATE: The Red Sox have Kaleb Ort as an opener followed by a bullpen game, the Yankees pull moderately good power numbers but ascend to the top of the board by team projection.
Main Slate Power Index – 6/18/23
The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
