MLB DFS: Power Index – 4/2/23 – DraftKings & FanDuel

The 10-game Sunday MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel features a deep pool of mid-range starters with teams getting into the middle of their rotations. This should lead to some offensive outbursts around the league as teams take advantage of lesser starters, and several spots are grading out somewhat equally for home run upside.

Main Slate

The Yankees will be looking to win the series against San Francisco after a tough loss in the Bronx last night that saw a home run from Giancarlo Stanton, who can always make the list of potential home run hitters. Stanton is joined by his fellow giant outfielder, Yankees captain Aaron Judge at the very top of the home run model today. The pair of pinstriped sluggers stand tall above their teammates, but left-handed first baseman Anthony Rizzo is also over the 10-mark in the model and has an excellent opportunity facing righty Ross Stripling. Additional Yankees bats to consider for home run upside include Gleyber Torres and catcher Kyle Higashioka, who may see the start this afternoon. Stripling allowed just a 2.24% home run rate in 24 starts last season, but a 5.34% mark the year before in 19 starts, he is somewhat targetable for power and Yankee Stadium will always favor hitting. This is a good spot to look for stacks or individual upside.

The Cincinnati Reds are at home in their launching pad of a stadium to face righty Vince Velasquez, who yielded a 3.45% home run rate on a massive 13% barrel rate allowed in 2022 and an unsightly 5.52% home run rate on a 12.2% barrel rate in 2021. Velasquez has long been targetable for both power and run creation, he allows too many opportunities and puts too many men on base via the free pass. The Reds do not have a hitter over the “magic number” of 10 in our home run model, but seven of the nine hitters in the projected lineup are at a seven or higher, which puts the full team well in play. Leadoff man Jonathan India is a targetable second baseman with home run upside and a touch of speed to boost scoring. TJ Friedl and Jake Fraley are a dynamic left-handed duo in the outfield. Friedl hit eight home runs in 258 appearances in 2022 and Fraley hit 12 in 247 tries. Tyler Stephenson and Wil Myers have been mentioned the past few days across this site as potentially viable Reds bats when stacking Cincinnati for MLB DFS, they should be joined by Jason Vosler in stacks today. The lefty has a team-leading mark in the home run model.
