MLB DFS returns to the forefront for a night with a strong 12-game slate and interesting contests available on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The deep board includes a fair number of high-end pitchers in very good matchups, including Blake Snell facing the Rockies, one of the worst teams in recent memory when facing left-handed pitching, Luis Castillo gets the Athletics, Zac Gallen draws the free-swinging Giants, and Ryan Pepiot will take on the Tigers in the nightcap. The board also includes numerous playable starters such as Logan Allen against the Royals, Alex Cobb against the tough Diamondbacks, and not nearly least, Spencer Strider in a tough spot against the Phillies. The slate is loaded with power as well, the Braves’ full lineup is averaging a home run mark above the magic number in their matchup with Cristopher Sanchez, and the Dodgers, Cubs, and Yankees are all flashing realistic power potential in plus matchups, with the Cardinals, Padres, and Astros not far behind. This is a slate with a fairly concentrated pitching pool at the top end, making a stand among the premium options on the mound while spreading out a bit at the plate to take on the remaining pitchers seems like a solid approach, none of the top starters truly warrant taking a contrarian position against them.
Main Slate Power Index – 9/19/23
The power index represents a team’s opportunity for home run upside in the matchup against the scheduled starting pitcher. This is not a direct guideline for stacking, but it can be utilized to determine the most likely sources of power-based contact, hitters who are not homering are frequently hitting doubles and driving in runs, and providing valuable MLB DFS scoring. The “Full” column averages our home run opportunity score for each player in the lineup from 1-9, while the “Top 6” column averages only hitters 1-6, where teams typically place their most significant bats.
